Why Lumina exists

Lumina exists because of a pattern we kept seeing, over and over. Someone reaches out for help during a difficult moment, and ends up in therapy that isn't right for them. Sometimes because there's no way to tell whether a clinician is properly specialist in what they need. Sometimes because the clinician has overstated what they can actually help with. A negative experience of therapy, at exactly the point someone needed compassionate and effective support.

Lumina was built in 2025 to close that gap. Our mission is to give people access to genuinely specialist psychological care. Care from a clinician qualified to understand the whole picture, without a long wait or the guesswork of choosing the wrong therapist. We've built Lumina as a connected community of specialists, not a directory of independent practitioners.

Depth over breadth. We work in three areas because we'd rather be truly expert in them than adequate across everything.

Honesty about our limits. If your difficulty sits outside what we specialise in — eating disorders and autism assessment are common examples — we say so at the first conversation, not partway through treatment, and point you somewhere that can help.

Understanding before treatment. We start from what's actually maintaining the difficulty for you, not a fixed programme applied to everyone.

Evidence, measured honestly. We track progress with the same standard measures (CORE-10, CORE-OM and WSAS) for every client, from the first person we ever saw, and we'll publish outcome data as soon as our sample is large enough to be meaningful, not before.

Continuity of care. We keep you with the same clinician from first contact through to discharge. The person who assesses you is the person who treats you.

A connected clinical community. We give every clinician access to both formal and peer supervision, and we're building a team that grows together, not one that stays static.

Who leads the practice

Lumina Therapies is led by Dr Bradley Platt, Clinical Director — a doctoral-level clinical psychologist registered with the HCPC, with a career spanning specialist NHS clinical practice and senior healthcare leadership, working alongside a small number of associate psychologists. Why trauma, personal injury, and long-term health conditions

These aren't three unrelated niches bundled together. Trauma is the thread running through all of them: an injury carries the trauma of the event itself, not just the physical damage; a long-term condition or persistent pain often carries its own trauma of an unpredictable, unreliable body. Working across all three through the same trauma-informed lens is what lets one clinician understand the whole picture, rather than treating a diagnosis and missing what sits underneath it.

Where we're going

Lumina is a small, deliberately specialist practice: two associate psychologists working alongside Bradley today, each within a maximum of two named specialisms. As we grow, what we specialise in will grow too — but only when we have the right clinician to lead it properly.

Where we work

Lumina Therapies works online, across the UK.

Getting started

You don't need a name for what you're dealing with, or to wait for it to get worse, before getting in touch. Send us an enquiry. There's no cost and no obligation, and no need to give the full picture now: a few lines about what's brought you here is enough.

A Clinical Psychologist will read what you send and reply personally, usually within two working days.
